East Route: From I-90 take Exit 61 to Hwy. 79 south to SD 36 (toward Custer State Park), then turn right on Hwy. 16A for 6.8 miles just after entering the park. No tunnels to reach park.
OR From Hot Springs: take Hwy. 79 north to SD 36 (toward Custer State Park), then turn right on Hwy. 16A for 6.8 miles, just after entering the park. No tunnels to reach park.
OR from the city of Custer, follow US Hwy. 16 A for 25 miles.
From Keystone: take Highway 40, 2 1/2 miles to County Rd. T330 (also called Playhouse Rd) turn right and go 4 1/2 miles until you come to a stop sign, turn left and go one mile. We are on the right.
Scenic Route NOT RECOMMENDED FOR BIG RIGS!"Through the pigtail bridges and tunnels (shortest height 12' 4", smallest width 13' 5" and sharp curves on the pigtails) EXPERIENCED DRIVERS ONLY! From the Jct. of Hwy. 16A and SD 244 (between Keystone and Mt. Rushmore turn toward Custer State Park on Hwy. 16A for 10 miles. (Hwy. 16A is also called Iron Mountain Road/Hwy.)
